My name is Rohmingthangi, but everybody knows me as Romy. I was born and raised in the lush green hills of the North East Indian state of Mizoram, sandwiched between Bangladesh and Myanmar.
As a young adult I moved to Bengaluru in South India, and it was here that I met my British husband, and I moved to the UK over 25 years ago where we have lived ever since with our two sons.
I have always had a keen interest in health and fitness, and have always tried to stay as healthy as possible eating a good diet and regularly exercising.
When I came as a new person to the UK I followed followed the course most British people follow, I signed up to a local NHS GP practice and an NHS dentist, and generally followed the NHS pathway for many years.
However, I was diagnosed with an autoimmune condition, not long after giving birth to my first child, and was told it was incurable and I would need to be on medication for the rest of my life, which gave me quite a shock, as I always considered myself to be ‘healthy’.
The blessing in disguise with the diagnosis, was that it made me even more aware of what I was putting into my body, which led me to a whole different level of interest with regards to nutrition and what it can do to your body!
More research and learning led to even more curiosity. The COVID-19 pandemic then hit us, and that pushed me into an even more heightened state of awareness of just how important nutrition was to your health and in particular, your body's immune system.
I then discovered the strong link between my gut health, which was pretty poor at the time, and autoimmunity, skin, energy levels, weight gain, you name it, the health of your gut effects it all.
Within our family life as my knowledge grew we have adopted more naturopathic practices into our daily life and have really focused on nutrition with our diets, and we have seen tangible benefits to our own health and wellness.
This sparked a real passion in me. I would talk to friends and work colleagues and they would tell me about their various health issues, and with all the knowledge that I had gained I wanted to help them and offer them some guidance, and that is exactly what I did, and I took immense pleasure helping my friends and was delighted when they would tell me of improvements to their health after following some guidance I'd offered them.
I soon realised that my passion for health and wellness didn't just extend to my family and my myself, I really wanted to, and took great satisfaction in, helping other people improve their health and wellbeing. With that in mind, I realised that this was a real calling to me, and to take up this calling as I saw it, I needed to attain a professional qualification in this field.
After a 25 year gap in any formal education, I enrolled myself at the arguably the most respected learning institute in this field, The College of Naturopathic Medicine in London where I completed and obtained my professional qualification as a Naturopathic Health Coach.
This qualification is fully accredited by the NHS' PCI (Personalised Care Institute).
This means that I can now meet people and offer them professional guidance on their health and wellbeing fully confident in knowing that I can offer very sound advice and guidance, and clients can be fully assured they are dealing with a fully qualified health professional, who will treat them with the utmost respect and empathy, and in complete confidence.
I would be honoured and privileged to help you on your quest for better health, please get in touch if you would like a chat to see how you might benefit from my naturopathic health coaching.
